Airgurus' 3rd quarter of 2012 was fun-filled... starting off with the arrival of "Hawkeye"... our pet name for our recently acquired chopper, Bell 206 BIII Jet Ranger. The rest of the period was filled with a lot of helicopter tours, corporate / VIP charters and medical evacuations (MEDEVAC) all over the country.
We also faced some great challenges during the month of August as Philippines was hit by a strong typhoon. Our Helicopter Search and Rescue (SAR) team was busy doing private emergency evacuation services in Bulacan, Bataan and other parts of Northern Luzon as calls from abroad poured in. OFWs concerned for their families in various provinces in the North hired us to either evacuate their loved ones at the height of the storm and placed them in safe places or deliver food, clothing, medicines to badly hit areas.
All went well during the stormy months and we had fun times with some famous celebrities in the country too like Tim Yap and Elmo Magalona through Oishi's O Wow promotion and Fabio Ide taking his parents out for a private helicopter treat to Tagaytay.

The Oishi Chopper Shower
July 20, 2012 was a memorable day for us. Airgurus was part of Oishi's Chopper Shower... bringing so much joy to students of Marcelo H. Del Pilar High School.
Our helicopter took Team O to Bulacan Sports Complex, where students of Marcelo H. Del Pilar High School were waiting. They were taken by surprise as the chopper showered them surprises packs from Oishi O, Wow! The surprises kept on coming as the chopper came in for a landing and out came Team O's Elmo Magalona and Tim Yap.
The chopper shower is just the first of Team O's big surprises. So what's next for Team O? "Like" Oishi Facebook Page! More photos are there!
Thanks Team O for working with us!

Helicopter Search and Rescue (SAR) During Typhoons
Saving lives in the Philippines is our primary mission. With the recent non-stop torrential rains that hit Metro Manila and Luzon, we have achieved our 911th.
Last August 7, 2012 the flood situation in the Philippines got worse and we have been receiving a lot of calls from people offshore seeking for our Helicopter Search and Rescue (SAR) services. Worried family members abroad wanted their loved ones who were trapped in rooftops on various locations in Luzon be rescued.
Since August 7 to 8, 2012 we have done so much... providing the ideal too to alleviate difficulties by providing emergency evacuation, medical assistance, fodder drops for isolated livestock, aerial mapping of flood victims / survivors and delivered food / medical supplies. It was during this period we achieved our 911th rescue mission. We wish we can publish photos of our rescue missions however, the clients who contracted us, specifically asked us to omit that part.
Last August 9, despite the weather, we have provided medical evacuation to a sailor aboard a vessel channeling the Mindanao areas... and transported him to the apt facility in Cebu.
Floods cause by typhoon in the Philippines are always a great problem. Many people also called us if we can do it for free however, since we are a private company, we declined to a lot which saddens us. We only do helicopter Search and Rescue (SAR) missions and medical evacuations (MEDEVAC) when we are contracted to do so. Each SAR and Medevac missions are dangerous during bad weather conditions.... often risking the lives of our captain and crew members.

Airgurus' New Helicopter Achieves New Milestone
Airgurus Ltd. Co. achieves new milestone with the arrival of its' new helicopter... the Bell 206 BIII. This new baby painted in Airgurus' colors black, white, red and silver, has just successfully completed its' first 60-minute maiden flight in the Philippine skies.
Now available for private charters, helicopter tours and for air ambulance / medevac services, the new addition to Airgurus' helicopter fleet is equipped with state-of-the-art equipment to ensure safety and consistently provide the best service to its' clients.
The Bell 206 BIII which is named as Hawkeye, is suited with Garmin G500H... an all-glass avionics system designed specifically for the VFR Part 27 helicopter market. Airgurus' Garmin G500H is the first in the Philippines. The Garmin's G500H dual-screen electronic flight display provides an affordable flight solution that meets the needs of the most demanding helicopter missions of Airgurus.
The G500H features dual LCD screens with the Bell 206 BIII's Primary Flight Display and the Multifunction Display which covers the three main areas of risk in helicopter operations... inadvertent flight into IMC, controlled flight into terrain and night operations. The G500H was designed to proactively address these issues to help reduce risks and challenges that come from a busier airspace.
Captain Harry Lero, President/CEO of Airgurus said, this acquisition of Garmin G500H proves how serious Airgurus is about safety of their clients and their fleet. Another milestone indeed for the Philippines' best helicopter company.

Living The Dream of A Roxy Girl: Airgurus' Kitesurf Chick Paula Rosales
Since late 2010, Airgurus has been the official air taxi of Philippines' ace kitesurfing babe, Paula Rosales. We have brought her a couple of times to Boracay via our helicopters and our executives would watch her compete and win competitions.
A true water baby, Paula started swimming for her school at an early of 10 and then immersed herself into water sports and board sports in the later years. From skim boarding where she competed and won a few, she discovered another board sport called cable wake boarding. It was there that she got noticed by big industry names and eventually, she became the first brand architect of Republ1c Lifestyle Store which represents international brands in the surf, skate and wake boarding industry in the Philippines.
After graduating in college, she got busy in the corporate world and that kept her away her friends in long trips to catch waves. It was last year that Paula decided to rest her work career and settled in living with the lifestyle she always love and have placed aside. As she goes back to water where she belonged, she continued to write for lifestyle magazines covering surf, skate, wake and kite competitive events, parties and activities around Asia.
For a year, Paula Rosales was seen kitesurfing on windy days, doing ashtanga yoga before breakfast, scuba diving during hot, windless summer days all over the Philippines and backpacking all over Asia, Europe and wherever the waters and the wind would call upon her.
Recently, Paula won 2nd place in the Women's Freestyle Kiteboard Tour Asia Championships 2012 held in Thailand.
Paula will be away from the Philippines for awhile. Currently in San Francisco preparing to join 2 international competitions, an Asian Tourney to join in Turkey this September and a kitesurf movie to shoot in Greece this year, she will be representing the country and Airgurus in all her activities.
What's new with our kitesurf chick in San Francisco? She recently joined the global search for "Live The Dream Of A Roxy Girl" and we at Airgurus, are behind her in living that dream! Please vote for Paula Rosales by clicking her official entry SUNSHINE SMILE!
From Airgurus Ltd. Co., best of luck, Paula! We love you and we are very proud of you! In our hearts, you deserve to win!

Capt. Harry Lero on our 858th Medical Evacuation Mission
Last week was our CEO | Chief Pilot's birthday. Instead of us celebrating his birthday the night before, Captain Harry Lero and our medical flight crew had to get some good rest since they were scheduled to fly to San Carlos City, Negros Occidental. The mission... to immediately transport a critically injured motorcycle accident victim to an apt facility in Manila via one of our air ambulance helicopters.
When it comes to saving one's life, Captain Lero puts himself first on the line thus; making the preparation to celebrate his own birthday on the same day becomes impossible for us at Airgurus. We all celebrated it with him the next day. Other special occasions like Valentines, Christmas and New Years with him is also quite impossible as he always has to do his missions. We can't complain... as Airgurus Ltd. Co. is the best provider of air ambulance transport.
The mission to transport the motorcycle accident victim from San Carlos City, Negros Occidental marked his 858th medical evacuation flight in the Philippines. Yes... our 858th successful mission.
Captain Harry Lero is good brother to his siblings, a good son to his parents, a good father to his children, a good boss to us at Airgurus, a good and humble friend to everyone... but not too many knows that he is... our everyday hero in the Philippines.
As of writing and as of today we are on our 862nd medical evacuation mission.

Health Tips From Our Medical Flight Crew: Take Care Of Your Heart
We have had numerous cases of patients with heart diseases all over the country flown from either homes or the hospital and brought to medical facilities of their choice in Manila. This is one of the reasons why we haven't updated our blog lately. We have been very busy saving lives.
The numbers are growing in the Philippines and is the leading cause of death. Last month alone, we have conducted 17 medical evacuation missions for heart-related cases thus; we at Airgurus Ltd. Co., can't help but be concerned and give some friendly advise to our followers here and on Facebook on how to take good care of your heart:
1. Stop smoking or use tobacco
In a country where we do not really have strict banning of cigarettes, smoking or using tobacco is found to be one of the most significant risk factors for developing heart disease. The chemicals in tobacco damages heart and blood vessels leading to narrowing of the arteries (atherosclerosis). Atherosclerosis can ultimately lead to a heart attack. When it comes to heart disease prevention, no amount of smoking is safe. Smokeless tobacco and low-tar and low-nicotine cigarettes also are risky, as is exposure to secondhand smoke. Social smokers are not even spared.
2. Exercising for 30 Minutes a Day
A regular, daily exercise can reduce your risk of fatal heart disease. Combining physical activity with other lifestyle measures is always of great help. Physical activity helps you control your weight and can reduce your chances of developing other conditions that may put a strain on your heart, such as high blood pressure, high cholesterol and diabetes. It also reduces stress, which may be a factor in heart disease. Swimming is one of the best and highly recommended on exercises.
3. Eating a hearty but healthy diet
Eating foods that are low in fat, cholesterol and salt is a good start. Fruits, vegetables, whole grains and low-fat dairy products can help protect your heart. Beans, other low-fat sources of protein and certain types of fish also can also reduce risk of heart diseases. Limiting certain fats consumption also is important.
Heart-healthy eating isn't all about cutting back. Most people need to add more fruits and vegetables to their die with a goal of five to 10 servings a day. So eat a lot of fruits! Eating that many fruits and vegetables can not only help prevent heart disease, but also may help prevent cancer. On decreasing risks of heart attack, some fish like salmon and mackerel are good natural sources of Omega-3 fatty acid (a type of polyunsaturated fat).
